Bitter Ranjit Sinha won’t demean CBI, PM Modi to chair meet today to choose new chief

PM Modi will chair the panel’s meeting to decide Mr Sinha’s successor

New Delhi: In a season when memoirs are being penned by several bureaucrats and politicians, who had served under the UPA government, outgoing CBI director Ranjit Sinha on Monday made it clear that he would not write any such book that may cause embarrassment to the establishment.

“I have nothing to say at all. Much dirt has been cast on me. You people are free to write whatever you want. I have done no good work,” he said, adding “One thing I must tell you people I am not going to write any book after retirement.”

The decks have been cleared for the appointment of a new CBI director with President Pranab Mukherjee giving his approval to the amended procedure where the leader of the single largest Opposition party in the Lok Sabha will be included in the selection panel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the panel’s meeting on Tuesday to decide Mr Sinha’s successor. This will be the first appointment of a CBI director after the Lokpal Act came into force.
