The Union government’s cyber policy states that the country needs 4.7 lakh cyber professionals and there are only 30,000 available at present,” he said. The Cyber Security & Privacy Foundation presented lifetime achievement award to former RBI governor and ex-chairman of Prime Minister’s economic advisory council Dr C.Rangarajan.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Rangarajan narrated the difficulties he faced when banks were computerised under his leadership as governor of the Reserve Bank of India.“Bank unions threatened me that only a few transactions should be done using advanced ledger posting machines (computers) so we had to cripple its memory,” Dr Rangarajan said.

Recalling the reports he as governor of RBI had submitted about computerisation of banks, Dr Rangarajan said that during 1980s they were even afraid to use the term computer in the report so he titled his first report as ‘mechanisation of banking industry.’The former governor also called cyber professional to come up with early warning system for cyber threats and combat cyber crimes.
