Chennai: Tamil Nadu on Saturday protested the Centre's reported move to scrap the supply of subsidised kerosene through the public distribution system (PDS).
‘If the government of India is actually contemplating such a harsh and punitive measure, it would impose considerable hardship on the people of Tamil Nadu,’ Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi , requesting him to reconsider the move.
Recalling that former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had in the past asked for an increase in the monthly allocation of kerosene to meet Tamil Nadu's requirement of 65,140 kilo litres a month, Mr Pannersevlam said the state was still waiting for its demand to be fulfilled. While 59,780 kilo litres of kerosene was supplied to the state in March 2010, today it got only 29,056 kilo litres, he regretted.
