Telugu Desam, BJP thumb down Telangana CM’s Vinayaksagar plan
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s dream of creating a new water tank Vinayaksagar exclusively for immersion of Ganesha and Durga idols near Indira Park has hit a roadblock with the BJP opposing it, while other political parties have asking for a cautious approach.
The CM explained at length about the growing pollution of Hussainsagar and the need to create a new water body for immersion of idols to save the lake.
State BJP president G. Kishan Reddy and BJP floor leader in the Assembly K. Laxman told Mr Rao that the BJP would oppose the proposal of a new water body near Indira Park for immersion.
“Ganesha utsav in Hyderabad has got international recognition. About 50,000 idols are immersed annually in Hussainsagar. The proposed place will create lots or problems,” Mr Reddy said.
TD floor leader E. Dayakar Rao also asked Mr Rao to drop the idea.
“We suggested him to discuss the issue with Ganesha utsav committees to avoid problems, since it has religious connotations,” he said.
Similarly, CPI leader Chada Venkat Reddy pointed out parking and other problems.
MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, meanwhile, supported the government’s move to clean Hussainsagar and check inflow of pollutants.
