Hyderabad: The spurt in e-commerce companies has turned to be a blessing for technology graduates as the competition to attract the best talent resulted in IT companies offering higher salaries.
The hiring pitch from e-commerce companies some of which are flush with cash has increased pressure on product and IT companies to increase their base salaries.
According to sources, basic salaries at IT companies have gone up by 15 to 20 per cent over the last five years.
Though start-ups are among the major recruiters, they might struggle to keep up with the e-commerce companies, say experts.
There are 1.5 lakh graduates coming out of colleges each year in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Out of the lot, the higher end talent are likely to get see better offers than earlier.
The graduates, who figure at the lower end of the talent spectrum, may also get a lot of opportunities.
“The freshers with additional qualities are in demand by product companies, start-ups, IT major as well as e-commerce companies.
“While smaller e-commerce companies require lower level of IT expertise to set up and run basic websites, bigger players like Flipkart, Snapdeal etc., where the number of visitors per second run into hundreds, need high end expertise.
The bigger e-commerce companies therefore require the higher end talent and are ready to pay them premium salaries,” said Ramesh Logan-athan, the president of HYSEA (Hyder-abad Software Enterprises Association).
“Recruitments by the e-commerce companies over the last few years have been a trendsetter in IT recruitments. The e-commerce companies started hiring freshers at much higher salaries than what IT giants were offering.
The e-commerce companies are offering much better compensation. IT companies will have to react accordingly so that all the talent is not attracted to new-age companies,” said Kulwinder Singh, vice-president, marketing and communication of Hyderabad-based multinational Synechron.
