Sydney cafe hostage Ankireddi Viswakanth's father confident of son’s safe release
Guntur: Ankireddi Eswar Reddy, father of Infosys employee A Viswakanth, who is held hostage by an armed gunman inside a Sydney cafe in Australia, hopes for his son’s safe release.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he said that Infosys had informed him about his son’s captivity at 9 am but were unsure then. It was later confirmed that Viswakanth was held hostage.
The Infosys employee was a student of Saraswathi Sisu Mandir, Guntur. He later joined Sainik School Korurukonda in Vizianagaram district. He also studied in Vizianagaram's school between 1990-199 4 from Standard 6 to 8.
His father Eswar Reddi is a farmer belonging to Sampat Nagar, SMS temple street in Old Guntur, who migrated from Kadapa district.
Viswakanth, who graduated from Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITS), Pilani, had moved to Sydney with his wife, Shilpa, and daughter, Akshaya.
“Viswakanth is working as senior project manager of Infosys in the Westpac Bank in Sydney. He was at the restaurant for his breakfast when the incident happened,” he said.
Confident about his son’s safe release, Eshwar said, “As five people have been released, I am confident about my son's safe return.”
Viswakanth’s mother Sulochana was aggrieved by the situation in Sydney.
Guntur West DSP, M Gangadharam and other police officials also visited the house Mr Reddy to inquire about the incident.
Earlier, Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj and M. Venkaiah Naidu Eswar Reddy contacted Eshwar Reddy assuring all possible aid and assistance for the safe release of Viswakanth.
