NEW DELHI: Considering complaints that travellers from Pakistan are carrying fake polio certificates for getting visas and then ent-ering India, the government has decided to administer polio drops to everyone entering India from the affected countries.
To intensify its surveillance, the ministry of external affairs had earlier issued a travel advisory for the travellers co-ming from affected countries, making it mandatory for them to get vaccinated before they enter the country and carry a “polio certificate”.
The government has now decided to vaccinate everyone coming from the affected countries. “The visa was linked to polio certification. How-ever, we have got complaints of travellers carrying fake certificates. It has, therefore, now been decided that everyone coming from affected countries will be vaccinated at the designated booths before they enter India,” a senior official said.
Officials say the step was significant as India looms under a grave risk of virus importation, with the virus circulating at a higher speed in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and also in countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Israel, Somalia.
