LG G3 exploded while charging

Smartphones exploding while charging are not a new phenomenon

Smartphones need to be charged almost every 8 – 16 hours, depending on the use. However, exploding when it charges is not a welcoming aftermath. This happened to a Reddit user ‘S-Blade’.

The user posted his calamity on Reddit and other social networking websites in the hope that LG would respond to the issue.

The tragedy took place, according to S-Blade, when his sister placed the LG G3 smartphone on the bed while the charger cable was connected. She was awake while the incident happened. She suddenly burst out crying stating that her smartphone exploded and when he entered her room, he found the entire area up in smoke. They tried calling the emergency helpline, and while at it, they also managed to take a picture of the burning mattress.

Before the emergency crew arrived, they tried extinguishing the fire with a household fire extinguisher, but the battery still kept burning through the mattress and they had to finally throw the entire mattress out of the window.

S-Blade confirms that the LG G3 was not modified in any way and was using the original charger and battery.

Later, he put up some more pictures of the aftermath, which shows the melted phone, the burned mattress and the destroyed and charred battery.

LG has not yet responded to the issue. S-Blade did not buy the LG product directly from the company, but got his mobile phone from T-Mobile, the telecom provider.

For all those who are using smartphones and have a habit of charging them during the night, it is recommended that you don’t keep your smartphone on the bed or under your pillow. A smartphone tends to heat up a bit whilst charging and keeping it under the pillow will only make it worse.
