Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Note 4G on sale next week

Xiaomi seems to target the Indian fans with budget-priced smartphones

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, which took massive beatings in the media after it debuted in India, seems to hold a large fan-following in the country.

With accusations of secretly sneaking the user’s data to their servers in Beijing to the recent ban on its sales and shippings in India from the Delhi High Court, Xiaomi has still emerged as a powerful budget-friendly smartphone manufacturer in the country.

Xiaomi started its sales with the flagship handset, the Mi 3 and later went on to retail massive quantities of the super-budget Redmi 1s. Later the Redmi Note 3G (still under the Delhi High Court ban with a pending case from Ericsson over a patent infringe claim) was on sale, but now it is the Redmi Note 4G phablet.

The first Redmi Note 4G sale took place on December 30, 2014 and the next sale is scheduled for January 6, 2014. However, Xiaomi has also scheduled the Redmi 1S for sale on the same day, albeit three hours later. Flipkart, the online retail partner, is accepting registrations for the two handsets. Those who still want a Redmi 1S handset still have the opportunity to get their hands on one piece while they are available. Those preferring to opt for a larger handset can check out the Redmi Note 4G next week.

The Redmi 1S is a dual SIM smartphone featuring a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels and protected by an AGC Dragontrail scratch-resistant glass. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with four processors clocked at 1.6GHz and coupled with an Adreno 305 graphics processor and 1GB of RAM. The internal storage provided is 8GB, expandable to 64GB via a micro SD card. The rear shooter is an 8MP with a single LED flash, while the front-facing camera is a 1.6MP. Connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and GLONASS. Lastly, the phone is fuelled by a 2050 mAh battery and runs on a custom Android flavour of Jelly Bean v4.3 operating system, MIUI V5. The Redmi 1S weighs 158g and is 9.9mm thick. The handset is priced at Rs 5,999.

The Redmi Note 4G is built with a 5.5-inch IPS display sporting an HD resolution of 720x1280 pixels. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with four processors clocked at 1.6GHz and clubbed with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 305 graphics processor. The internal storage provided is 8GB, which can be further extended to 64GB via a microSD card. The rear camera is provided with a 13MP sensor, while the front camera is a 5MP. The Redmi Note 4G is a dual SIM phablet supporting 4G LTE network along with 3G and 2G. The Note 4G is powered using a 3100 mAh battery and runs on a custom Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, the MIUI v5. Priced at just Rs 9,999, the Redmi Note 4G is likely the first handset to be supporting 4G LTE networks in India with a lowest price tag.
