A Sunday bazaar of organic wares

Stalls at Adivaram Angadi sell organic vegetables, groceries and handicrafts
Hyderabad: At 10 every Sunday morning, Our Sacred Space at Secunderabad hosts the popular Sunday bazaar known as Adivaram Angadi. There are around 15 stalls selling organic vegetables, groceries, handlooms, handicrafts etc.
For homemaker Ramya Kuberkar, making paper quilling earrings and necklaces is a hobby. She comes to the market every Sunday to sell these earrings and makes “decent profit”. Beside her is the stall of S. Jyothi who does Banjara needle work. She sells skirts for newborns, purses, accessories etc.
“I put up the stall every Sunday... but not every Sunday is a profitable day... sometimes there is loss too, but the customers I meet here praise my work. Some buy... some don’t,” says Jyothi,” says Jyothi.
While you can put up a stall for free for the first time, you will be charged Rs 300 after that. This Sunday looked to be a good day for “farm2fridge” as most of its organic vegetable were sold out. The prices are similar to that of the open market. There were also two stalls selling handloom saris Pochampalli, Bengal cotton saris, Sambalpuri, banana fibre and cotton saris etc. The saris start at Rs 800.
Nayantara Nanda Kumar, one of the organisers says “People who value organic food, handicrafts and handlooms are encouraging a lifestyle art which is currently threatened. It is not a commercial activity for us, we charge Rs 150 to Rs 300 per stall and also try to subsidise it further for a few.”
