Into the wild with cameras
For the first time, students and faculty members of the University of Hyderabad decided to focus on the one thing on their campus that everyone is in awe of — its wildlife — for their annual calendar. Breathtaking photographs of wildlife present in the 2,400 acres of land, now find themselves adorning the pages of the calendar for 2015.
“We got to know in September, that we can submit photographs based on the campus wildlife. You find all sorts of animals and reptiles here, so over the weekends, we just go around the campus and shoot. It’s like a stress buster for us. Eleven photographs of mine were printed, out of which four were the main images,” says Jillapalli Ravi, a final-year PhD student in Life Sciences.
And they also list the best time to shoot on the campus. “The best time to shoot is in the morning hours, when there are no vehicles and not much noise. Early in the morning you can even see peacocks walking on the road,” says Shreyas Joseph K., a second-year MSc student of Integrated Chemistry.
Meanwhile, Taijrani Rampersaud, an international PhD student from Guyana, South America, says, “I would take photography walks, so that I can capture life as I see it. The photograph used in the calendar was clicked as a happy coincidence in front of the Indira Gandhi Library on the campus. I was waiting for some friends near the library when I noticed all these butterflies feasting on the nectar from the flowers.”
