25 kids fall ill after mid-day meal in Mumbai
Mumbai: Over 25 students were hospitalised after consuming the mid-day meal at Dayanand School, Matunga on Tuesday afternoon.
They were shifted to Sion Hospital’s ward number 4 in the evening.
On hearing about their kids being hospitalised, parents started streaming into the hospital, inquiring about their kids.
Over six resident doctors from the hospital, along with the dean of the hospital Dr Avinash Supe, were observing the seven kids, who were constantly vomiting.
The parents were not informed about the incident till late evening. “The incident took place at 2.30 pm. The children were made to sit for some time and were given medication in the school itself. Only after their conditions deteriorated, were they taken to the hospital,” said the mother of a Class 8 student.
She also said that the khichdi was served to only 25 to 35 students from the school. “After they saw them vomiting, the school authorities immediately stopped the distribution of khichdi in school,” she added.
The parents were outraged, as they were not being allowed to see their kids in the hospital. “I have arrived here half an hour ago. I just want to see if my son is alright. I am getting restless,” cried a father as he was being stopped by the security.
