A couple of romantics: Nia Sharma and Ravi Dubey
Ravi Dubey and Nia Sharma play Sid and Roshni in Jamai Raja and fans absolutely adore their sizzling onscreen chemistry. We talk to them about their popular characters, life on the sets and more.
Fans love the romantic scenes between Sid-Roshni. Do you guys have a favourite?
Ravi: The confession of love sequence between Siddharth and Roshni was quite memorable, and it was the 14th or 15th episode we shot. Sid had been trying to woo Roshni since a very long time and he also had to conceal his real identity, and pose as a middle class guy for her. In that scene where she confesses her love for him, I remember we were in a vineyard and Sid gets a little angry and tries to drive away but she stops him mid-way to declare her love.
Nia: There are many cute romantic moments between Sid and Roshni… the most recent one that I remember is the pillow fight sequence. Because of the treatment that it got with the lights in the ground, the pillows and the feathers dropping down it was the most amazing romantic scene that we shot and hats off to the director for that!
What are the qualities you admire in each other?
R: One of the strengths Nia has as an individual is that she is a very transparent person. She is one of the safest people to be with in the sense that whatever is in her head, she will speak it out and not keep it in her heart. I think it is a very commendable quality in today’s time where people generally use diplomacy as a device. It’s rare to find an individual who has a lot of integrity in that sense and I would like to inculcate that in myself.
N: Ravi is a fabulous co-star to work with. He is an extremely dedicated and committed actor who puts in a lot of work to ensure that everyone does their work well in every scene.
What makes you happy and what annoys you?
R: Spending time with my wife Sargun (Mehta) is what makes me happiest. Also, doing good work makes me happy, like currently the drama of my real identity revelation is really interesting. When you do good work, you sleep well, so I think that is happiness. Other than that, I have a very close set of friends, so I love spending time with (them). I also enjoy reading books and watching films. But more than anything else, I think my spiritual practice of Buddhism keeps me happy. The tendency of people to gossip is something I don’t encourage or find entertaining at all.
N: Being in good company makes me happy. People who laugh all the time as also the crazy moments that we encounter with enthusiastic crowds during shoots — these keep me happy. There are a lot of things that annoy me as well, specifically, people who are not very cool but try to act as though they are. I find it a big turn-off. Like when I hear someone putting on an accent…
What’s something you can or cannot do without?
R: I could do without my over-involvement in work because sometimes, it reaches a very unhealthy level. I should relax sometimes and take it a little easier.
N: I certainly cannot do without my skin treatment products like the one I am currently using for acne because it keeps my skin healthy. I know if I leave my acne treatment, my skin will get ruined so I am particular about following it strictly.
What’s your idea of a perfect date?
R: A perfect date would be one that’s jaw-droppingly amazing for your beloved! I remember so many times when Sargun was left speechless with my (romantic) gestures. When I proposed to her on national television or when I gifted her a premium car I think these were some of the extremely memorable moments that we both will cherish for life.
N: First of all, if the guy is good then the date will automatically be good. My idea of a perfect date would be to only go out with a good guy.
Tell us about one unforgettable moment from your personal and professional life.
R: The day I got married to Sargun December 7 was one of the biggest moments in my life. Professionally, it was when Jamai Raja went on air.
N: Personally, the times of hardship I have faced over the years, especially after my father’s death, were the most terrible moments. I would never want to forget how far we have come from then... In my professional life, working on my previous show was unforgettable as I learnt a lot.
Who in your family do you share your secrets with?
R: I think you can’t share all your secrets with your parents. There is always a certain conduct you need to maintain. But I can share all my secrets with my wife. I can talk to Sargun about anything and everything.
N: My mom and my brother. They are the people I’m closest to and I love spending my nights chatting with them when I have a holiday. I share everything with them...they are my buddies!
