West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee’s TMC moves SC over Saradha case
New Delhi: The Trinamool and the Mamta Banerjee government on Monday moved the Supreme Court alleging that the CBI was targeting prominent leaders of the party in the Saradha chit fund scam probe to stabilise the state government.
Senior counsel and Congress leader Kapil Sibal made an urgent mention of the filing of the petitions by the Trinamool and the State government and pleaded with the Chief Justice H.L. Dattu for an early hearing. The bench, which also included Justices A.K. Sikri and R.K. Agrawal, posted the matter for hearing on January 22.
Party general secretary Mahua Moitra alleged that the CBI was acting in collusion with the NDA government at the Centre with the political agenda to target Trinamool leaders. She said the apex court judgment of May 2014 entrusting the Sarada scam probe to the CBI was being used by the Central government as a tool for political vendetta.
She pointed out that CBI probe was ordered to ensure a fair investigation, but the probe agency was conducting a motivated investigation to prominent leaders of the party. Further the CBI was deliberately leaking to the media the information of the probe to tarnish Trinamool leaders.
