Other states opt for JEE

Experts say that the JEE (Main) is a good platform to identify talent

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is planning to scrap the Eamcet and follow the Tamil Nadu model. However, other states are joining the Joint Entrance Exam (Main) conducted by the CBSE for admission to local engineering colleges.

This year, engineering colleges in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Nagaland and Odisha will write only the JEE (Main) even for entrance to local colleges.

Experts say that the JEE (Main) is a good platform to identify talent, which is the primary motive of an entrance test. A large section of students, who write Eamcet, also attempt the JEE (Main) in a bid to get into the NITs and IITs.

And just writing one test for admission to any college will hugely reduce the pressure on the students.

However, the CBSE following the 40% weightage to local boards while allotting ranks to students still remains a tricky issue And with the limited number of ranks that CBSE allots finally in the JEE (Main), the state might also be worried about many students being left out, and finally lot of these local seats will be left vacant.
