Parents kill 17-year-old for ‘honour’
The girl was in love with her classmate of a different caste
Chittoor: In a case of honour killing, parents of a 17-year-old girl murdered her after she insisted on marrying her classmate, who belongs to a different caste. The family belongs to Nellorepalle village in Punganuru mandal of Chittoor district.
The victim has been identified as Suseela, a first-year Intermediate student of Basavaraju Junior College at Punganuru. Suseela was reportedly in love with her 18-year-old classmate Suresh for the past two years. Suseela belonged to a Scheduled Tribe while Suresh belonged to a Scheduled Caste.
Suseela’s father Yerukula Sriramulu and mother Parvatamma had warned their daughter against meeting Suresh when they had found out about their relationship. However, the girl defied her parents and continued meeting Suresh.
Angered by Suseela’s decision to marry Suresh, Sriramulu and Parvatamma decided to eliminate her to protect their “honour.” On January 16, the parents found Suseela and Suresh together near their house.
They forcefully took Suseela to the Siva temple at Gurrappabanda near Kottaveerapalle village on January 17. They wanted her to swear that she would end the affair with Suresh. However, she refused. Enraged by her disobedience, Sriramulu strangled Suseela.
The parents then hit the girl on head with a boulder to ensure that she was dead and dumped the body in the nearby forest. They then lodged a missing complaint at the Punganuru police station on January 22.
The police discovered a highly-decomposed body on January 25, but no one turned up to claim the body. Palamaneru DSP P. Sankar said that the police suspected Sueela’s parents involvement after her boyfriend expressed doubts to a person, who was a police informer. Sriramulu and Parvatamma confessed to the crime during interrogation, police said.
