KCR seeks PM Modi’s help for Telangana power crisis
Hyderabad: Facing the prospect of power rationing for all sections, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s help to bail the state out of the current crisis. Claiming that the new state is “at the doorstep of an acute power shortage”, Mr Rao requested Mr Modi to direct institutions concerned to allocate surplus power from the Eastern Grid to TS for the next four months using the existing transmission corridor capacity.
It is estimated that TS will face a power shortage of 1500 MW during peak summer and it has pinned its hopes on the 800 MW from Dabhol in Maharashtra. No final word on the availability of the corridor has been given yet.
24 hour power in 3 years: Chief Minister
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that his government would make the city a global one. “Hyderabad will soon become a smart, global city. Some asked, ‘Will you sell Secretariat and Raj Bhavan?’ We need 1,000 markets. Where should they be located? On Congress leaders’ heads? The TD leaders’ heads?” he said.
He said the High Court had not pulled up the government on GHMC elections and asked the government to conduct polls after delimitation. He said the power situation would ease this year and there would be 24-hour power supply after three years with generation from new plants. He took a dig at Congress MLA D.K. Aruna for criticising delay in housing scheme after visiting a slum in Mahbubnagar.
