‘I wish Mallika Sherawat good luck’
Vijay Singh, the winner of reality show Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika, was supposed to marry the actress after the show. But now he claims that Mallika, who is much elder to him, left him soon after the show, citing their age gap as a reason. Excerpts from a conversation with Singh:
Why did you participate in the show Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika? Were you serious about marrying Mallika Sherawat?
When I was in Class X, her first film had released. I was really fascinated by her charm and when I heard about the reality show, I was tempted to try my luck. I really wanted to marry her.
Why did the two of you break up?
More than the age gap, it was also the distance that played a major role. Mallika is a big actress and has a name outside India as well. She would get many offers for assignments and would often be out of the country. We hardly spent time together and eventually we grew apart. She mostly stayed in LA while I was here in Mumbai. It was a mutual decision to part ways.
How has your family reacted to the split?
Our families met each other after the show concluded. My family, in particular, was very supportive of my decision. They said that it was my decision. Mallika explained that she was 38 and I am 24, so there was a slim chance that it would work out. I was heartbroken and depressed, but we all learn to move on.
Do you plan to marry anytime soon? Are you dating someone?
No. And I am not dating anybody.
Are you interested in doing more reality shows?
If I get a chance, I’ll definitely do another reality show.
Do you feel reality shows are scripted?
I don’t think they are scripted, but that’s my opinion. When I was on the show, it was Mallika who liked and chose me. So I cannot say that it was scripted. But to an extent such shows are fake, as we didn’t last. Neither did Rakhi and her chosen one.
Are you in touch with Mallika?
We have not been in touch for the past couple of months.
What do you think about Dirty Politics?
I have seen the promo and I’ve liked her in it. I plan to watch the film and I wish her good luck.
Tell us about your film?
My film Monsoon is a woman-centric social satire. I play a forest officer in it.
