Extremely happy that directors expectations have become more real: Sachin-Jigar

The two talk about industry demands, audience expectations and future projects

Filmmakers bank on Sachin-Jigar to come up with something exceptional and the two certainly don’t disappoint. The audience was blown away with unconventional yet striking numbers in their latest offering, ‘Badlapur’. Ahead of the new season of Coke studio @ MTV, we caught up with the duo for a quick chat.

With this new season of Coke studio, what should we expect from you?

Sachin: I was in two minds about what we are getting into, but these guys have inspired me so much. It just feels like we started yesterday and we have a long way to go. Songs are just like story-telling and we are here to give you an extended version of a story. There is this instinctive feeling right now that we might definitely go lower than the North Indian music.

Whom do you look up to as an inspiration?

Sachin: Amit has been like my mentor, we always look up to him. Now, Pritam is here, he has always been a guardian angel to us. We are really looking forward to this show.

You are currently working on ‘ABCD 2’, what project next?

Jigar: We were all busy with Badlapur until now, so we don’t want to rush into things. It takes a little while to get into the story and understand the director’s perspective. So we will just focus on ‘ABCD 2’ and until that releases we are not going to consider anything else.

This is the first time you will be performing in front of a set of live audience, how is that experience different from recording in a studio?

Jigar: When you are in a studio, all you think about is making the song. But when you are in front of a set of live audience, you need to think about how to entertain them, and yet keep your music true and honest. This is more challenging, kicking and exciting as well.

How do you cope up with directors’ expectation keeping in mind the audience’s demand?

Jigar: I am extremely happy that directors have become more real. They are looking more at real scripts, drama and emotions. We are not making a song which is superficial or which fails to connect. When you make an honest script, it automatically finds its way to connect to audience.

Any plans in composing in other language this year?

We just did a film in Gujarati and it has got a great response. We have done a couple of songs in Telugu..so we are completely open to composing in different languages.
