If not actor, I’d be interviewing criminals: Kalki Koechlin
The actress, in a candid interview, shares her views on cinema
Kalki Koechlin is a woman who wears many hats. The actress, in a candid interview, shares her views on cinema, ageing and psychology. Excerpts from a conversation:
On ageing
I’m more confident now than I was in my early 20s. I’m surer of myself, I feel sexier and prettier. The thought that I will die someday is what scares me a lot.
On directorial pursuits
There is so much to learn! I take inspiration from some of the old people that I love like Veenapani Chawla… Till the age of 70 she was doing theatre, performing, practising yoga and I was like — Wow! I want to be like this woman when I’m old. Like Meryl Streep, who is still doing leading roles in her 60s, I think it’s inspirational!
On Margarita With a Straw
The Indian audience is way smarter than we give it credit for. We are now on the Internet, downloading films every day from all over the world. I think it’s high time we start giving our films the value they deserve.
On indie cinema
The indie film space is struggling because there is no distribution. What we need ideally is a theatre which only shows independent movies.
If not an actor…
If I was not acting I would have become a criminal psychologist, be in a prison somewhere, interviewing criminals!
