Man held for bid to rape friend’s wife
Chennai: A 38-year-old man, who runs a props rental business in the Tamil film industry, was arrested on Wednesday after he attempted to rape a 31-year-old woman luring her into an employment trap. The victim is the wife of his friend, the police said. Srinivasan, 38, of Kodambakkam was picked up from his residence based on a complaint from the woman at the Egmore police station.
Investigations revealed that Srinivasan visited his childhood friend Ramesh (name changed), a software engineer, at Karim Nagar in Andhra Pradesh recently. Ramesh told his friend that he would like to move to Chennai and had asked him if he could help his wife find a job. Srinivasan promised help and told his friend that he would take his wife to Chennai and make her stay in a guesthouse for a couple of days before finalising the offer. His friend trusted him and sent his wife with Srinivasan.
He put her up in a guesthouse on Montieth road, Egmore on Tuesday. Later, that night, he visited her and made sexual advances, which she spurned. With the help of a few friends, the woman preferred a complaint with the Egmore police who summoned him for enquiry and arrested him. However, Srinivasan initially denied the allegations and said he was asking back his money.
