Govinda marks his return to television after 14 years
Mumbai: Govinda has replaced Mithun Chakraborty as judge on ‘Dance India Dance Super Moms’ on Zee TV. The actor will be returning to television after 14 years. About returning to TV he says, “My films didn’t release since 5 years and these were films I did for directors and production houses that are well known. So I believe, nothing is in ones hands, everything happens when it’s meant to, including this show.”
Govinda’s dance is something that the actor is known for. “The best quality in a dancer is that his dance doesn’t seem like dance. It feels like he is expressing a lot without words. Rather than dance I enjoy watching bhav (emotions). Govinda dance is what kids enjoy. Govinda Aala Re is famous all over Maharashtra because Govinda (Krishna) is for children. My mother used to say that I should always respect my name and should try to make kids happy so I always pray for kids.”
About his role on the show the actor says, “More than contestants who do the right thing, we are looking for moms who do the wise thing. Whatever I have earned in life is due to my mothers blessings and I want to encourage other mothers. I hope they take my comments in the right spirit, I don’t intend to hurt anyone.”
Speaking about kids on reality shows he opines, “I see lot of kids participating in reality shows, these days and their performances are wonderful but I also feel that as studies have increased the innocence and bhakti bhaav among kids has gone missing. Sometimes I am astonished by the way kids perform and wonder how they manage.”
Ask him about young actors giving seniors competition in Bollywood, “Young actors these days have to work hard to compete with newcomers, entering the industry everyday. From personality to dance, they have to work on everything, infact it’s a bit too much. The good thing is they are aware about cinema. When is started out in films I didn’t have much knowledge of dance. I used to shoot in so many shifts that I wouldn’t remember what I did where. Inspite of that I succeeded and I owe my success to my mom. I was never a dancer; I wanted to be a writer. I always felt that my mother is looking after so many children; I should be the child who looks after her. I started struggling at a young age and people would tell me, you are so young, how can you be an actor… I started my struggle from age of 14. I used to visit producers offices and after long I realized I should do something other heroes cant do. I used to visit Juhu beach and started practicing dance. Jaha same ban jata hai, who log pasand karte hai. I started doing that and it worked.”
