WC 2015: A catch in Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s diving catch?

Dhoni called it quits from Test cricket after taking a fine diving catch

Mumbai: Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s catch to dismiss Soumya Sarkar during India’s win over Bangladesh in World Cup 2015 quarterfinal clash on Thursday is highly lauded for its athleticism and the ground Dhoni had to cover to hold onto the ball.

There is not even an iota of doubt about the brilliance of that catch. But it may well turn out to be an indicator to MS Dhoni’s possible retirement from ODI cricket.

Wondering how?

While India’s World Cup winning skipper is lauded for his smart and fast work to dislodge the bails, he has faced his share of criticism for not attempting diving catches.

He did his bit to prove those criticisms were unjustified by taking a fine diving catch to dismiss Joe Burns during India vs Australia Boxing Day Test at Melbourne.

However, Dhoni, without giving away a slightest of hint, retired from Test cricket immediately after the game and the Test series turned out to be his last in five-day cricket.

That may not be a sufficient indicator to say that there will be an encore of such decision. But there is a possibility that the World Cup 2015 will turn out be his final ODI tournament in Indian colours.
