IAS officer’s death probe: CID deleted footage, claims DK Ravi’s father-in-law

Bengaluru: IAS officer D.K. Ravi’s father-in-law Hanumantharayappa on Tuesday said that he suspected CID officials of deleting the CCTV footage recorded in the digital video recorder (DVR) installed at his house. “If the footage of March 15 was available, they could have found Ravi shouting at someone over phone. I was shocked to find that the footage recorded before 10.30 am on March 16 was deleted,” he said, while speaking to the media at his house in Mallathalli on Tuesday.

He said, “A CID team led by SP Kumaraswamy came to my house on March 18, two days after Ravi’s death.”

“They had taken the DVR with them saying that they need it as part of the investigation. They returned the DVR on Monday and took my signature. When I verified the DVR, I was shocked to find that the footage deleted. When I spoke to SP Kumaraswamy, he said that files in the DVR were not opening,” Hanumantharayappa said.

He said, “There are four CCTV cameras installed in my house and 20 days of footage are saved in it. It’s connected to a UPS. I suspect that the CID officials have deleted it. I am told that the deleted files can be retrieved and I will consult technicians. I will also inform the CBI about it.”

Meanwhile, with the state government handing over the case of mysterious death of IAS officer D.K. Ravi to the CBI, the CID officials who were probing the case so far have stopped their investigation into the case.

CID sources said that soon after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the case had been referred to the CBI, top officials of the CID directed them to stop the investigation. “Whatever investigation we have done so far has been updated to the government in the status report. We will exchange the details of the case with the CBI officials, if they approach us after they start their probe,” a CID official said.
