Mr Ahmed alleged that the victims had suffered injuries other than those caused by bullets. “They had fractures and other kinds of injuries on their body. The police calls it an encounter, it is a clear murder,” Mr Ahmed said. He said that Viquar and the others had feared that they would be killed by the police, and had complained to the court.

Venkaiah lashes out against MIM

M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday told MIM leaders and rights activists to shun double standards while reacting to encounter incidents.

He told the media at Begumpet airport: “They were keeping silent then. Now they are branding the encounter as police murders. This should not be the attitude. Some people react sharply when an encounter of terrorists or those facing serious charges occurs. When ordinary people or the voiceless die, human rights associations do not react much.”

He refused to speak on the subject further, stating: “Since law and order is a state subject, it is better I keep away.”

Reacting to reports of the Jawaharlal Nehru government snooping on the family of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, he said a detailed probe was necessary. He said he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.
