India mimes through time

Around two weeks ago, Australian comedy group SketchSHE had released a video titled Mime Through Time — wherein the three members Shae-Lee, Madison and Lana, lip-synced to popular English tracks through the decades — all of it in the confines of their car. It got over 21 million views on YouTube and now, Bengaluru-based Enthu Cutlets have come up with a response video called Mime Through Bollywood.

Varun Agarwal, who had earlier directed the popular video, Anu Aunty – The Engineering Anthem, has directed this one as well, “We were planning to do a ‘When Anu Aunty meets Batman’ video and had the script ready and got a Batman costume as well. But then, ‘What if Batman was from Chennai’ came out and we had to drop that idea. That’s when we decided that we’ll do a response video to the SketchSHE mime.”

The team decided on the songs depending on their popularity and their relevance today and the video was shot by Sam Mohan who placed the camera in the car and manoeuvred it from outside with his iPhone. Choreographer Preeta Periera put together the dance steps.

“The biggest challenge was to manage the 14-costume (styled by Mithilesh) and make-up (by Sid) changes for each of the girls in the video within 12 hours, because we all have day jobs and we got together one Sunday to shoot. If it didn’t work out on that day, we would probably have had to ditch it,” he adds.

The video got over 3 lakh views on YouTube within a day. From Eeena Meena Deeka to Desi Girl and Dum Maro Dum to Kolaveri Di, Shilpa Johar, Teena and Tessa Vellara, stand out for their effortless charm in the video. While twins Teena and Tessa are recent college graduates who will be making an appearance in Shandaar starring Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Shilpa is a marketing executive.
