Bajaj 100cc bikes’ sales declining
Despite the slowdown, the sports bike segment has been witnessing double digit growth
Hyderabad: If the sales figures for the past five months are to be concerned, the 100 cc motorcycle segment, which largely dominates the Indian roads, is declining. Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the new range of Pulsars, Bajaj Auto VP (marketing-MC) Sumeet Narang said, “The auto market has been largely flat in the last two quarters and it was the same last year as well. Also, we have been witnessing a decline in the sales of 100cc bike segment. However, it will be difficult to ascertain one particular reason behind that.”
Despite the slowdown, the sports bike segment has been witnessing double digit growth. Approximately, 1,35,000 sport bikes are sold in a month, of which about 10,000 are in the above 200cc or Rs 1 lakh segment . Pulsar has a 43 per cent market share in the sports bike segment. However, the share of sports bike in the total auto sales still remain at a meagre 1 per cent. The country’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer is also planning to introduce a new vehicle in the below 500 cc segment by the next fiscal.
