Rahul Dravid lauds crackdown on chuckers
He fully supports the ICC and BCCI’s clampdown on bowlers with faulty actions
Mumbai: Former India captain Rahul Dravid, who mentors the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, said he fully supported the ICC and BCCI’s clampdown on bowlers with faulty actions. He felt stringent steps were needed to send a strong message to coaches at the junior level.
Choosing not to comment on any particular individual Dravid said, “I really do support efforts to try and rid this issue from the game and take it very seriously. I am in complete support with the ICC and BCCI stand on trying to eradicate this.”
Known for his in-depth knowledge of the game, Dravid said that while a majority feel sorry for the bowler, what missed the eye was the impact it may create on batsmen. “People talk about misfortune of the individual concerned, but I would like to throw light on batsmen. What about those who get out and their careers are ruined while facing someone with a dodgy action?”
The 42-year-old added that while bowlers with a questionable action had managed to get away in the past, the issue was being addressed now. “There was a time in Indian domestic cricket there were so many bowlers with dodgy actions. A whole lot of spinners (with clean action) did not get an opportunity. They have decided to eradicate this and it will take time, but that is the right way to go,” he said.
