Anurag’s heavily banking on Bombay Velvet
Bombay Velvet will need to have a great run at the box office to recover its costs
The promos of Bombay Velvet didn’t get the response the makers had hoped for. But Anurag Kashyap and his team is going all out with the film’s promotions, ensuring they do their bit to spread the word till the time the film hits theatres. There’s a lot riding on this film for Anurag and his leading man Ranbir Kapoor.
A close friend of Anurag says, “As the release date is drawing near, there are a lot of nervous moments, yes. A lot is hanging in the balance for both Anurag and his co-producers Fox Star.”
The film has apparently gone steeply over-budget. The source adds, “Budgeted at an estimated Rs 120 crores, Bombay Velvet will need to have a great run at the box office to recover its costs. Fox Star’s past few films including the latest Mr X have been failures. Bombay Velvet is Anurag’s ticket to the big league blockbusters.” Not just the director and his hero, the film is also important for Karan Johar. “This is his first major role as an actor, and that too as a villain. And as for Ranbir, his last two releases — Besharam and Roy — failed to work their magic at the ticket windows. So, he too doesn’t want anything to go wrong in his third experimental attempt,” points out the source.
“Everyone needs this film to work. That’s why all negative needs to be avoided,” the source adds.
