Move over selfie, Dubsmash is here
Even before actor Ranveer Singh shared his latest obsession with his fans, people were already hooked on to this latest online craze — Dubsmash. The actor recently tweeted: “Two much dysfunction in one dubsmash!!” In the first video, the actor lip-synchs Anil Kapoor’s dialogue “I am on top of the world” and in the second video, he and his co-star Priyanka Chopra dubsmash a dialogue from their upcoming film Dil Dhadkne Do.
Closer home, youngsters have been sharing hilarious and fun videos which they admit they just can’t stop making. Actor Harshvardhan Rane, recently shared his video titled, “Wearing a Captain America T, but....the truth is... #RealLifeProblems”.
If you are still wondering about the whole Dubsmash business, despite seeing your social feed inundated with such videos, here’s what you need to know.
What is Dubsmash?
With over 20 million downloads from all over the world, Dubsmash is a mobile app that allows you “to create short selfie videos dubbed with famous sounds”.
From Hyderabad Nawabs to Iron Man, popular ads to latest pop songs, the app lets you lip sync and then share, if you want, the videos on various social networks. The app, which was officially launched in November 2014, is described as a “video selfie app”. It is created by Jonas Drüppel, Roland Grenke and Daniel Taschik from Germany.
For the inner drama queen/king in you
Even though it was launched months ago, the video selfie craze has hit the city only recently. Harshvardhan Rane’s Iron Man video had more than 2,000 hits in less than three hours. Harshvardhan says, “This is exactly what we do at dubbing studios. The fun part of Dubsmash is that the dialogues are ready, it’s just the emotions you have to get right. I feel there’s an actor inside each one of us and this app lets you express that side.” He admits he is hooked on to the app.
Why youngsters love it
Having made more than 22 videos in the past few days, Cameron Luke Saripalli says that one of the reasons why you get addicted to the app is because it’s a great way to express yourself. Majority of his videos are based on scenes from Hyderabad Nawabs, The Angrez and Bruce Almighty among others. “We all love speaking out loud or enacting our favourite dialogues from movies. So this app is like putting to test what you have been watching for so long,” he adds, “The videos are only few seconds long, so people don’t get bored.”
It’s easy
You could be in your PJs or dressed to kill, in your bed or a fancy hotel; the videos will turn out fun. With absolutely zero monetary investment, it’s no surprise that the app has found a huge following.
