Actress Hilary Duff recently revealed that she is using Tinder to find dates in Brooklyn.
Being in a generation where social media rules supreme, where news breaks on Twitter and an album is not a tangible one but on Facebook, it wouldn’t be long before love was found online. But with the dating app boom, it’s not just love but more that’s found online.
The world’s favourite Tinder, or apps like Truly Madly, have now come to the lonely heart’s rescue. Celebrities like Hilary Duff are even working on Tinder reality shows. And before you start log in, here’s a review, straight from the heart, and the streets:
It could get real quick
Expect it all. Tinder might just land you in an awkward chat with someone who, before knowing your name, wants to know if you are okay going on a date, preferably with drinks (insert wink emoticon). If that’s not your thing, there’s an “Unmatch” button and beware, for they might stalk you on Facebook to send you a creepy message that says “Hey I checked you out on Tinder.”
Boys, there will be better ones... no really
Any man who’s on Tinder in Hyderabad will tell you this, “But there are not many good looking girls on Tinder”. Not many girls are yet open to the idea of using a dating app (why? Read above paragraph) and boys complain about the rarity of the “good ones”.
As it is for everything good in life, give it some time.
Brave and the beautiful
While for girls, the modelling profession is their favourite, for guys, it has to be the adventurous kinds. Girls post photographs that look straight from a photoshoot, boys put up photographs set in a jungle, under the forlorn sky. But remember, there’s something called Photoshop too.

Rarely do you find these really nice conversation starters where there is no flirting (or maybe a little) and you wonder if this is the one. BUT before you take things forward, good ol’ Facebook can help you know more. A quick view of photographs and comments will let you know if he or she is committed.
And the answer always is “Oh I’m just here to know what it’s like.” Well, now that you do... time to leave?
Share numbers selectively
Giving the app a try, I actually went out on a date and it turned out to be quite nice (after all the stories mentioned above happened). Yet if a date turns out to be not what you had hoped for, you can always “Unmatch”. It’s wiser to hold on to your phone number and share it only with a select few. Because after all, you do not want those unnecessary calls or drunk texts in the middle of the night, do you? And while we are there, take note of those married ones, there to be “just friends”. Not happening.
