Hungry to do well always, says Steve Smith

Smith said there was no dearth of motivation in him despite winning the World Cup
MUMBAI: After piling on a mammoth 769 runs against India in the Border-Gavaskar Test series that included a century in every match, Steve Smith was the unanimous recipient of the Man of the Series award. He carried on the same form in the tri-series where he was once again Australia’s top scorer. Smith continued his terrific run in the World Cup too amassing 402 runs which again included a century against India in the semi-finals. Barely a week after the World Cup, Smith changed gears to join his IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.
With so much of an overdose, one would expect Smith to be turned off with yet another mention of the sport he plays, but the 25-year-old said he never tires of talking about the game he loves. “I am a cricket tragic. I do follow the game. I know that Karun Nair got a triple century in the Ranji Trophy final,” said Smith talking about his obsession.
Smith said there was no dearth of motivation in him despite winning the World Cup. “It was an amazing feeling to be able to win a World Cup and at home in Australia. It was a great learning experience. I don’t think much has changed to be honest. I am still as hungry to perform at any level and any format of the game. Nothing has changed there.”
Though it’s great to have someone like Rahul Dravid in the setup, Smith said he prefers to be his own coach during training sessions. “I have not really had too many conversations with Dravid, to be honest. I try do most of the batting myself, work things out myself. I am pretty strong in believing that you are your best coach and you are the one out there that's got to do it. I try and figure out myself.”
