Girl’s family caught the couple while they were trying to catch a train: Police

Patba: Burnt bodies of a minor schoolgirl and her 25-year-old Dalit married lover were found in by the police in Wazirpur area of Gaya, Bihar. The couple were reportedly beaten by their family members and villagers before being burnt alive as their families did not approve their relationship, police said.

Police has registered a case of ‘honour killing’ against six persons and has arrested a woman in connection with the killing. According to Gaya SSP Manu Maharaj, the incident occurred in Ameta Village in Wazirpur on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old girl was having an affair with Jairam Manjhi, 25, who was married and was a close relative of the girl. The girl was reportedly trying to elope with Manjhi. Their families were against the relationship and had appeared before the local panchayat, which tried to strike a compromise. However, the girl’s family did not accept the compromise.

According to police, the girl’s family caught the couple while they were trying to catch a train at Paharpur railway station to leave their place. They were dragged out and brought back to the girl’s village where they were first beaten up and then tied and burt alive together. Police sources said the arrested woman has revealed some important details which can help them arrest other accused.
