Fry-day looms ahead, 21 dead in Telangana
Hyderabad: The official death toll due to the prevailing heatwave conditions rose to 21 in Telangana on Thursday. Disaster management cell principal secretary B.R. Meena informed that 21 persons have died according to consolidated reports from districts.

Most of the dead were elderly and labourers living without shelter. In Andhra Pradesh, disaster management commissioner Dhanunjay Reddy said that the death toll is still being compiled by officials. Meanwhile, the severe heatwave conditions sweeping across the two states are set to make summer days the hottest of the last decade and maybe even the hottest ever.

While temperatures soared on Thursday, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials warned that it would get worse over the next two days. Ramagundam touched a high of 46.8ºC on Thursday, closing in on the decade’s high of 47.2ºC, recorded in 2010. The forecast is that the 47ºC-mark will be breached in the next two days. Hyderabad recorded a high of 44.3ºC.
