I’m indebted to Salman Khan: Himesh Reshammiya

Music is my first love as it’s in my blood, says Himesh Reshammiya

Mumbai: Himesh Reshammiya, who isn’t new to reality shows, will soon be seen on a new one with fellow singers Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan and Mika. Himesh will be a judge on &TV’s The Voice India. Speaking about what fans can expect he says, “The concept is such that Mika, Sunidhi, Shaan and I will try to convince singers to join our teams. I won’t be aggressive on the show. I have always had an emotional connect with contestants even on my previous show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as well because those are the contestants with whom I work in the future. I am looking for unconventional voices on the show because those are the voices I need for my songs. I don’t use conventional voices for my compositions.”

Speaking about why he isn’t taking up as much of work as before, Himesh explains, “There are a lot of people who work harder than me but this is my destiny. I used to take up 35 films a year but if I continue that, I will get exhausted in the next two years. If you observe these days, all artistes have become choosy. It’s because everyone wants to protect his or her career. A lot of planning goes into ensuring that every project becomes a super hit. In the past if we liked a song, we finalised it and the audience too liked it. Nowadays we listen to a song 10 times, make our team listen to it 20 times, even if we have one per cent doubt, we scrap it and start working on a new song altogether because there is a pressure to do better than your previous hit and we don’t have a choice.”

He adds, “As an actor I plan to do one film a year and as a composer, two or three. Besides that I can accommodate one reality show and some live performances. First I used to make 100 compositions and use 50 of them. Now I make 500 and use just 10. Those too are reworked several times. Music is my first love as it’s in my blood.”

Lastly. Himesh doesn’t forget to thank Salman Khan who gave him his big break. “Salman Khan gave me a break and that proved to be a boon. By the grace of God, my first song was a blockbuster. After that I got 16-17 projects and all did well. I am still indebted to Salman and I’m working with him in Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo."
