Audi’s clean fuel for cars
Just a month after Audi made headlines when it created the world’s first synthetic diesel, the German automaker has done it again, producing its first batch of synthetically produced fuel, that it’s calling “e-benzin”.
Through its French research partner Global Bioenergies, the e-benzin was created through a process of conditioning and purification of sustainably derived gaseous isobutane, reported gizmag.com. The fuel was then sent to Germany, where it was refined into 100 octane gasoline.
While the base fuel itself can be used to improve existing fuel quality as an additive, the refined fuel will have a “clean burn”, claims Audi, because of the lack of actual sulphur and benzene.
Audi says that it will be engine-testing the fuel before actually introducing the technology into its cars, with Global Bioenergies claiming that that could happen “very soon”.
