Smashing reel ‘dub’uts
Sandalwood and Bollywood stars are going ballistic with this video selfie app
Are you dub-smashed yet? If not, then you’re probably not on the list of people doing the coolest things on the Internet. Going gaga over dubsmash, a video selfie app are not just city’s youngsters, who are getting wacky and innovative, but also our Bollywood, Kollywood and Sandalwood stars of the likes of Chiranjeevi Sarja, Harshika Poonacha, Aindrita Ray, Dhanush, Shruti Haasan, Sanjjanaa, Suriya, Radhikaa, Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Priyanka Chora, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and many others.
Taking the Internet by storm is actress Aindrita Ray who quips and laughs, “I made my own dubsmash with two cricketers KL Rahul and Robin Uthappa and had such a blast making it.
We posted it on Instagram and Twitter and got instant likes and so many followers who loved it. I actually called it dumb smash as we look retarded in the video. I think Rahul and Robin have done a great job and they should show more of their acting skills now.” Joining the bandwagon is Sanjjanaa who is all excited about it. “I had a blast making these videos (40,598 views) and sent it to all my friends. They just died laughing. I’ve tried popular songs like ek, do, teen and mohabbat barsa de na tu and funny dialogues and got so many likes.”
Going by the trend is biker turned villain, Rohit Giri who used the mash up sounds and videos to send to his friends and received funny comments and guffaws, says, “I saw a lot of friends doing it so I thought of giving it a try. I mixed various clips and made some funny expressions with my eyes and mixed action and comedy dubs (2015 views). I will keep making more and post on Facebook.” Adds a savvy young cricketer from the Karnataka team, Sinan Khader, who mashed up sounds, phrases and videos, and is going viral, “I’m a huge fan of Dubsmash and this is the coolest thing I have ever done using the app; singing and dancing to Kingfisher’s Oo la la la leo jingle was fun and I was the first one to post it online for a contest and so many people after that started following the trend.”
The trend is on such a rise that everyone seems to be asking their friends if they also posted funny and hilarious videos of themselves or tried to lip-sync to their favourite songs, speeches or film quotes. No wonder then that the app that has crossed 20 million downloads doesn’t seem to seize anytime soon.
