HAL chopper manufacturing unit to come up in Tumakuru
Tumakuru: The state government wants the proposed HAL chopper manufacturing unit in Gubbi taluk here to take off as soon as possible. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikkar on May 22, claiming his government has been proactive and has allotted 610 acres of land at Bidarekatte Kaval in Gubbi. He wanted the foundation stone to be laid at the earliest.
On May 21, Karnataka additional chief secretary, K. Ratnaprabha had written to M Mohan Kumar, secretary, Ministry of Defence, explaining the steps taken by the government. The demarcation of land and installation of boundary stones has been done after a joint survey with HAL. An order has been issued for procurement of Hemavathy water from Kadaba tank.
Congress MP from Tumakuru S.P. Muddahanumegowda clarified that the project would not be shifted. He said he had held talks with HAL chairman T. Suvarna Raju adding that he may contact the Defence Minister seeking his presence for the foundation stone laying.
