KCR has ambitious plans for ‘Bangaru Telangana’

CM initiated new schemes like Mission Kakatiya as part of Bangaru Telangana

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been in the news throughout the year. He kept people’s aspirations alive by changing the path of a “neglected” TS towards “Bangaru Telangana”.

This slogan indeed helped him reap a rich harvest as far as increasing the TRS strength of MLAs from 63 to 77 is concerned. And the so-called “open invitation” to opposition legislators to join the TRS to achieve Bangaru Telangana will be in vogue even in the coming years.

As part of the Bangaru Telangana endeavour, the CM has initiated new schemes like Mission Kakatiya, a Rs 25,000-odd crore scheme to revive 46,531 with 9,306 tanks taken up in 2014-15. Once restored, the tanks will impound more rainwater to improve irrigation and boost groundwater in the surrounding villages.

Another major initiative is the Rs 40,000-crore TS Drinking Water Grid that will provide tap water to every home in the state. Mr Rao has been repeatedly saying that if he fails to complete this scheme in the next three years, he will not seek votes from people in the 2019 elections.

The CM has also decided to “re-engineer” major irrigation projects in TS to utilise more water from Godavari and Krishna rivers. The change of the Pranahita-Chevella Scheme design is one step towards this. The government wants to construct at least two major dams in this scheme to make up for the loss of storage at

the Sriramsagar project, which is suffering sedimentation. Mr Rao has also decided to take up two major irrigation projects — the Palumuru-Rangareddy lift scheme and the Jurala-Pakhala scheme.
