Kavya Madhavan’s new ‘laksyah’

Kavya Madhavan is all set to launch her e-commerce retail venture called Laksyah

Kavya Madhavan has been critiqued for her dress sense in the past, but recently we have seen her wardrobe and accessories undergo a sea change. Most of her recent public appearances have seen her sporting well coordinated outfits with matching accessories which have been widely appreciated. Turns out that the beautiful actress has been wearing her own designs and Kavya is all set to turn her penchant for designing into a business proposition.

She will be launching her e-commerce retail platform for clothes by the end of this month with the name Laksyah which will be retailing sarees, skirts, and lehengas as well as undertaking customised services. The name Laksyah means objective and Kavya explains, “Everyone has an objective in life and this has been mine for a long time — to start something related to fashion; hence the name lakshyam or aim in Malayalam.”

Kavya also reveals that the love for and connection with clothes runs in the family. She says, “My father’s family has been in the textile business and my father took over the textile shop in Neeleshwaram. My brother has studied fashion designing and my mother has been styling my clothes. So, everyone in the family has an interest in fashion and I wanted an alternative profession to films. I have been getting enquiries for my dresses and accessories and while juggling various ideas, we finally decided on starting an e-commerce business rather than a retail shop since I cannot be present at my shop every day.” Kavya also mentions that there are no celebrity run online stores in Kerala.

Kavya used her brother as her sounding board and her guide to help kickstart this venture. She draws her strength from her parents, her brother and his wife, who also fortunately has a good fashion sense. Kavya did her research and found out that online sites have been doing brisk business but she also understood the challenges they faced. She mentions, “It looks very easy from the outside but there are a lot of parameters that have to be worked out. The backbone of any e-commerce site is the delivery system, the products should be good since I am the brand ambassador and I know I have to be involved 24/7.” Kavya is being very choosy with her film projects and hence there should be no clash between her fashion business and her film career. She concludes, “I cannot depend entirely on films and this business is my future.”
