New Delhi: Olympic medallist woman boxer MC Mary Kom on Friday rubbished reports that she was contemplating leaving Manipur in the wake of rise in insurgency in her home state.
Mary Kom said she was misquoted by a national daily as saying that she was planning to leave her home state following the brutal killing of 18 Indian Army personnel earlier this month by North-East terror outfits.

"Dear friends, with reference to the article on Indian Express as published, I humbly and sincerely declare that my statement about the insurgency situation in Manipur has been misquoted," the London Olympic bronze medallist pugilist said in a statement.

"I have not expressed or commented on any plans to ever shift from Manipur. I belong to Manipur and will always maintain this and I am proud to be an Indian at heart. Jay Hind," Mary Kom said.
"Being the proud brand ambassador of North Eastern region, I would never think of stating such and irresponsible comment. It is my duty to live up to the role which the country has entrusted me."
