10 gadgets you ‘want’, but certainly don’t ‘need’

Here is a list of gadgets that have been made primarily to satisfy your fancies

Many tech gadgets are a necessity these days to keep up with the world and its ways. However, there is a fine line between the gadgets that we ‘need’, and the ones we ‘want’. When the demand for a widget seeds from the urge to satisfy your whims, that’s when you know, you are investing in a gadget not because you really require it, but because it’s a status symbol or a fad!

We curated a list of ten gadgets that everybody would love to own, but are not really a requirement!

Selfie stick

We know we burst your bubble, but sorry to break it to you, you don’t really need it! We agree that it’s a convenient gadget, but it is certainly not a requirement.

Smartwatch

Most of us dream to own a smartwatch, specially the 90s kids who grew up watching detective cartoons like Dick Tracy. Although, this wearable device is certainly the future, however, presently it is in its baby stage and does not make it to the list of gadgets you need.

3D Television

As much entertaining it is to watch your favourite movie in 3-dimension, owning a 3D TV is still a super luxury and not a requirement. To add to that, it doesn't even make sense to invest so much in a 3D television, as content to watch on it is not yet available that easily.

Drone

Drone is a helpful piece of machinery for certain research and rescue operations. However, drones can also be seen as a rich person’s toy. That my friend, is not a ‘need’. But, regardless, if you own one, fly on!

Wearable smart device — Ring

Ring is a wearable input device that let’s its user to control gadgets around them. It allows gesture control, text transmission and other similar functions. However, various critics have termed it as a ‘gadget disaster’. Snazzy Labs also reviewed the wearable, and they called it the “worst product ever made”. See the review for yourself:

Google Glass

A Google Glass is a pair of Android-based smart spectacles that presents information to the user on a small virtual screen at the edge of their field of vision. However, give it a thought, do you really require that? How much do you wish to rely on technology? And if this doesn’t sort your thoughts, think about ‘I, Robot’.

Oculus rift

The Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets are indeed quite rad to own! But, counting them in the 'things you need' list? Nope! May be put them in your birthday wishlist.

Smartphones with a luxury twist

This should not even need an explanation. Gold plating, studded diamonds, Avenger theme, are all gimmicks, and you know it. You need them? Nope!

Bladeless fans

Also called ‘air multiplier’, bladeless fans, as the name suggests are fans that generate air without the blades. They are light, portable and quite safe when it comes to children and pet being hurt. However, it essentially does exactly what a regular fan does, but costs a lot more that it. Therefore, we think it pushes more towards the ‘fancy things’ more than necessities.

E-cigarette

Electronic cigarette, or for that matter, a regular cigarette, is definitely not something you need! It kills, and you know it. Period.

With the list of these gadgets you don’t need, we do not wish to dictate what and what not must you own. However, it is always good to realise the line between the ‘need’ and the ‘greed’.
