Agitators allow Maharaja’s college to hold exam
The decision was taken after a meeting of the PTA and representatives of the students’ bodies
KOCHI: The dark clouds over the conduct of the PG exams scheduled to be held at Maharaja’s College from Friday along with other colleges under MG University were removed on Wednesday with the striking teachers and students agreeing to allow the conduct of the exams inside the college. The decision to this effect was taken after a meeting of the PTA and representatives of the students’ bodies called by the Principal on Wednesday.
The striking AKGCT teachers said in a release that since the exams belonged to the old stream that came before the existence of autonomy, they have decided to allow it. They said that they will continue with the day-night agitation which is now on before the college.
The KSU activists staged a mock class on the roadside demanding that students be allowed to attend classes at the college. KSU district president Titto Antony inaugurated the meet. He demanded that autonomy should be implemented only after allaying the apprehensions of students and teachers.
Meanwhile an order issued from the higher education department in the state capital in the day created unrest and angst among the striking teachers. The order is understood to have said that the college will remain closed till June 26. “The order has not been issued by the principal. If the government is interfering in every other thing, what does autonomy mean? We will continue with the agitation until and unless the autonomy is withdrawn. We will resist all measures related to autonomy,” said a teacher.
