He may only be ten films only but Aadhi, son of ace Tollywood filmmaker Ravi Raja Pinisetty proved his versatility playing a complex role in his debut Tamil movie Mirugam. After a lackluster Aravaan in 2012, the actor returns with a big-bang in the action thriller Yaagaavarayinum Naa Kaakka (YNK) which is directed by his brother Sathya Prabhas. Contrary to his on-screen characters, Aadhi, one of the the eligible bachelors in Kollywood comes across as a soft-spoken person who spoke to DC about YNK, his working experience with Mithunda and debuting as a singer.
On YNK:
The story is inspired from real-life incidents that happened during my elder brother Sathya Prabhas’ college days. After Prabhas completed his course at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles and wanted to debut as a filmmaker, we discussed lot of genres. This incident suddenly flashed on his mind and he immediately started working on it. Primarily, it is a thriller with twists and turn. It revolves around four college friends, three of them rich and one guy from a middle class background (which is played by me) and how a certain incident changes their lives.
Tell us about your character in the movie...
I play Saga-Satish Ganapathy, who is a boy-next-door and like any other normal guy his age. Though I am from a filmy background, 90 per cent of my friends belong to the middle class so I could relate to the character easily.
Character transformation in YNK...
I had to reduce my weight to get the lean look of a college guy. My brother told me to cut down on my shoulder width. Also I shed a few kilos through dance practice.
Working with your sibling a plus or minus?
Since Sathya Prabhas is directing the film, it is a sureshoot for me. He sees me every day at home and knows me perfectly. So, when he created the character, he knew what suits me and what doesn’t. He explains the scenes and leaves the rest to the artistes — that way he extracts the best from everyone, after which he may improvise on it. Yet another advantage with him is that he is very focussed and dedicated.
On sharing screen space with Mithun Chakraborty
It was a really enriching experience. Describing it in one word ‘wow’. Every actor has his or her own definition for acting. I did not see any muscle movement on his face while delivering the dialogues. But he performs all the intense moments through his eyes. Off-screen, he is a polite person.
Singing debut...
My music director trio felt that my voice would suit the soup song Sokkaana Ponnu. I am happy the song has been received well and is trending on online platforms. There’s nothing wrong in actors crooning, as long as the voice is not irritating to the people who hear it.
On Aravaan: Hits and flops are part of the business. I want to be a part of good films. As an actor I feel proud and lucky to have acted in an intense movie like Aravaan.
On wedding plans
Right now, I am single. My parents are looking out for an alliance. By the year end, I may get hitched (laughs).
