Art Over Coffee

Canvas Talks’ curator Ashis Pahi prefers public spaces like coffee shops to display art

The scene is just like your usual cafe, people are busy eating or are conversing over a cup of coffee. But, cafe Yours Truly is not just any cafe, this gallery cafe is also home to the art exhibition Canvas Talks in Hyderabad.

When an art exhibition comes up artists throng it. But, there is a disconnect between art and the common man who doesn’t have the time to visit galleries. So artist Ashis Pahi decided to do something about it he took art to the people through Canvas Talks .

Ashis Pahi, who has made Hyderabad his home for the past seven years, recently shifted to Mumbai. “Why does one have to wait for people to visit art? If we want people to be more aware of art, we need to take it to them,” says Ashis.

After Hyderabad, the show will then be taken to Pune, after which it will travel to New York, LA, Amsterdam and London among other cities. But Ashis clarifies, that it is not a travelling exhibition. “Yes, the concept is travelling, but we are not taking the same art everywhere.

With a travelling exhibition, a sort of boredom sets in, people already have an idea of what they are going to see, so we decided to change the artworks and the artists,” informs Ashis. Each exhibition that will be held across various cities will have a new set of artists and no artist will be repeated. The exhibition in Hyderabad has 15 artists from across the world displaying their work and.
