Mystery shrouds BSF man’s death at railway station
Chennai: A BSF jawan, found unconscious near a rail track near Singaperumalkoil railway station in Kancheepuram district on Thursday morning, died at the station under mysterious circumstances two hours after the paramedical team of ambulance service ‘108’ had declared him healthy.
The deceased was identified as R. Subburaj, 37, a native of Sattur, Virudhunagar district, who was traveling in Nellai Express from Kovilpatti to Egmore to return to BSF base in the northeast. Later in the day he was scheduled to travel by Coromandal Express.
According to railway police, Subburaj got down at Tambaram railway station after his handbag fell off from the train between Singaperumalkoil and Paranur stations. He went back in call taxi to Paranur station asking the driver to wait on GST Road and never returned. At around 9 am, the guard and motorman of EMU going to Chennai beach noticed Subburaj lying on the side of the track. They took him and dropped him at the Singaperumalkoil station.
“He was vomiting and so we called 108 ambulance service. When the paramedical team arrived he refused to go with them saying he would not be able to report to duty if he is hospitalised. The team which checked the pulse found he was normal and they decided to leave without him,” the police said. Spokesperson of 108-ambulance service noted that the paramedical team had tried to take him in the van but he refused.
However, around 12.20 pm the jawan died. The Chengalpet railway police later registered case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem. The call taxi driver who waited for his customer to return from Paranur station came back to Tambaram where he had picked up Subburaj and handed over the luggage to the railway police.
