Floods: Jammu and Gujarat crippled by incessant showers
Several parts of south Kashmir were inundated today with streams and rivulets running in spate and the Jhelum flowing above the danger mark as heavy rainfall lashed the region. - Meanwhile, the Gujarat government has announced Rs 4 lakh each as compensation to famlies of the deceased
- Two deaths were registered in Dahod, Mehsana, Morbi and Surat, while one death each have been registered in Kheda, Porba-ndar, and Valsad, as per official figures
- Four died in Devbhoomi-Dwarka, while three deaths each have been registered in the districts of Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Surendranagar
- Five deaths each have been reported in Bharuch, Jamnagar, Kutch and Rajkot districts
- According to figures provided by the Gujarat state emergency control room, 26 people died in Amreli, which is the worst hit district
- Meanwhile in Gujarat, the toll due to heavy rainfall, followed by a flood-like situation in has gone up to 70, including 26 casualties in the worst affected Amreli district
- Several areas of Anantnag district, including Nai Basti, Takia Behrampora, Shamsipora and Hassanpora, were flooded due to the overflowing Jhelum river and its tributaries
- A flood alert was sounded late last night for Anantnag and Pulwama districts with the MeT department predicting more rain over the next 48 hours.
