E-Netra evokes good response from public
Chennai: E-Netra system, introduced for the first time by the Election Commission, has evoked a good response from the public. As many as 72 complaints related to the R.K. Nagar by-election were received through the system, while other methods of lodging complaints were not much used, says an official. He said that while most calls were enquiries about voter Id, complaints regarding pasting of posters on compound walls, public transport, delay in clearing garbage generated by campaigning were also being received.
Of course, some mails were annoying. They neither contained a complaint nor information. However, these messages should also be taken into account and calculated. A single person had sent more than 15 mails with just a question mark and no question at all, fumed a Chennai corporation control room official.Explaining about the follow-up on the complaints, the official said queries related to election ID cards were being forwarded to the Zone 4 Tondiarpet Office, while complaints about pasting posters in violation of the model code of conduct were given to flying squads. It was up to the squads to take action. The squad members also gave information on the action taken.
Public did not much use the facility of filing online complaints and complaints through toll-free number. Only around 15 complaints were received through these modes, the sources said.
