Lalit Modi ran into Vadras at London restaurant
New Delhi: Controversial former IPL chief Lalit Modi on Friday dragged the Congress leadership into the controversy after he tweeted that he had “run into” Priyanka Gandhi and her husband, Robert Vadra, at a London restaurant. The BJP has now latched on to this development to deflect the attack.
The Congress, which kept up the pressure on the BJP, jumped to the defence of the Gandhis, saying that “running into anybody in a restaurant was not a crime”.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s muscle-flexing has put the BJP in a defensive position, leaving the party seemingly with no option but to back her at this juncture.
To discuss the crisis, which has considerably damaged the party’s image, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Friday held separate meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah. So far the saffron top brass seems firm on defending Ms Raje. Ms Raje will be attending the Niti Aayog meeting in New Delhi on Saturday.
In New Delhi, BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said the party “fully supports Vasundhara Raje, who is our tallest leader in Rajasthan. The Congress is targeting our popular leaders and we stand by her.”
