Dhyan Sreenivasan is taking the right steps

The star kid wants to make sure he chooses the right movies

Though he is a celebrity kid, Dhyan Sreenivasan has no halo. He talks so pleasantly and honestly that one feels like one is chatting with a friend. He is excited that after two years, he is back to Mollywood with a good project — Kunjiramayanam. And Dhyan says that he feels nice to be back on screen. He had been waiting for a perfect project after Thira, directed by his brother Vineeth Sreenivasan.

“In an actor’s career, the second movie is very crucial. That determines his future,” says Dhyan smiling. After Thira, though he had offers, all the roles were more or less similar to the character in Thira. So, he decided to wait for a good movie. “That is when Basil came with Kunjiramayanam. It was ettan who told me about the character first. I liked the character. Besides I knew Basil, the core team and my ettan too was acting in it. All these factors encouraged me to pick this project,” says Dhyan.

According to Dhyan, in movies, it is comfortable to be working with known people. “The best part is that we will be able to enjoy the shoot. It was fun shooting for almost 35 days for Kunjiramayanam. I felt acting to be an enjoyable process after the shoot of this film. Another factor is that there will be a good communication if we know the team well. We can raise questions and discuss our opinions without any fear. It may not be possible on other sets. Kunjiramayanam is one movie we all enjoyed doing,” says Dhyan.

As he wished, Dhyan’s character in Kunjiramayanam is entirely different from Naveen of Thira. If Dhyan had acted under his brother’s direction in Thira, in Kunjiramayanam, he is acting a vital character, alongside him. “I am the antagonist ‘Lalu’ in the film. I could relate well with the character. And I really enjoyed doing it,” he says. However, in the movie, he and Vineeth have very few combination scenes. “Most of my scenes are with Aju ettan,” says Dhyan adding that Kunjiramayanam will bring back all movie-goers who loved movies that belonged to the golden era of Malayalam.

“Kunjiramayanam is a satirical movie. It is a kind of going back to old movies. Don’t you remember the old movies Pradeshika Varthakal and Peruvannapurathe Viseshangal? Actors were loud in those movies. Likewise, we too have given loud performances in Kunjiramayanam. You can see almost all characters appearing in every scene in Kunjiramayanam. And I am sure people will like it,” he says.

Ask him whether his brother gave him any tips while acting, he says, they hardly criticise each other. “We are two different individuals. I have never looked at him for guidance. In Kunjiramayanam, all of us acted according to the director’s guidance. Ettan will intervene in those movies he directs. If he is an actor, he will abide by what the director says. Even if he wants to say something, he will convey it in an amicable way,” says Dhyan.

What would Dhyan have been, if he hadn’t come to movies? “Since I was born in a family that was closely associated with cinema, my dream had always been to become a part of it. I knew that it was my path. Somehow, I reached there. Now, I have to be careful while choosing movies. My father is a popular actor and my brother has also carved his niche in the industry. I don’t want to bring shame to them by choosing wrong movies. That is the one thing I keep in mind while selecting movies,” says Dhyan signing off.
